Before the 2013 MLB season, one of the greatest closers of all-time, Mariano Rivera, announced his farewell tour with the Yankees. Rivera became the first-ever active Yankee to have his uniform number retired before his last game.
September 22nd, 2013 was named "Marino Rivera Day" by the mayor of New York, and Metallica performed "Enter Sandman", Rivera's iconic theme song, at his ceremony in Yankee Stadium.
In his final game, Rivera pitched 1+1?3 innings without allowing a baserunner. After stepping off the mound for his last time, the usually reserved Rivera tearfully embraced his teammates and walked off the field to a standing ovation from fans and player. He have his final salute to the crowd and took a curtain call.
